Cutting is so isi ;o)

Baga and me were at a riding-course last weekend. We learned a lot and I also had the chance to ride a non-icelandic horse which is often used for competitions to feel the difference between "my" riding-style and "how to do it better". It was very interesting that everything worked with the right signals, but nothing with the wrong signals. And suddenly Baga also listened to me as I used the "right" signals! On Friday we had the first cow-contact and I was very excited if she will be frightened but NOTHING!!! This horse is unbelievable cool and confident. I could ride through the cow-herd without any problem. I was incredible happy and thought it can not get better this weekend but I was wrong! On Saturday we started with a "dry run" without cows: going backwards and turning the horse for 180° as soon as possible. Of course we could not do this twist immediately and I learned that it needs 12.000 retries to make it perfect but now we have something to exercise for the whole winter :o) Unfortunately I can not repeat one thing more than five times because Baga is getting angry about too many retries but I will build more practices around it to make it more interesting.
After the dry run every rider went into the round-pen with one single cow to sniff at each other. The experienced riders started to work with the cows and the beginners learned the first steps. I had no anticipation that Baga would work with the cow. I only wanted to walk through the round-pen and look what happen. It happened a lot! After few times going in walk beside the cow and cutting her way, the cow began to run faster - and Baga too! Suddenly I was following the cow in full gallop and cutting her way during the cowboys outside of the roundpen started to cheer us :o) Nobody would have believed that and I was smiling over my whole face and thinking "I KNEW IT!"

The rest of the weekend we were always waving the icelandic flag with the charme of Baga and all people around were deeply impressed about this kind of isi-power . Funnily enough I met many people who also own(ed) icelandic horses (before). Maybe now more owners of icelandic horses will try to cut cows with their horses now. I can tell you all: it's a great fun and I can not await to take part at the next course on the Seven Gate Ranch! But now we have to work out many things for being more practised the next time. Vá this looks like a lot of fun and you look so confident doing this . Even Baga is showing a new side on herself. She is just a good working horse. It seems like she has to see a meaning to what she´s doing.

I would have liked to do this too

Mensch geil, ungeahnte Kommentare . Vielen Dank Euch, Mädels. Das macht wirklich tierisch Laune und man vergisst total, dass man eigentlich nicht gern galoppiert, denn schließlich will man die Kuh kriegen!!!

OMG    if you are going to go after sheeps in full gallop then they will not make it down the mountain!!!! They will just fall down to the earth and not make it anywhere

 Luckily I learned that speed is not the most important thing and that calmness also have to be learned and used. In our last exercise - sorting a cow out of the herd and move her into a corral - I noticed how important it is to stay calm but always on guard .

Wie genial Bine! Freu mich fuer Dich! Was fuer ein Lerntempo ihr habt! Klasse! Welchen sattel hast Du denn da? Ich mag auch irgendwann einen Westernsattel haben fuer unsere Isis (oder einen von ihnen).

P.S. Flúð ist verkauft, vielleicht magst Du sie von der Seite nehmen und Rebbi statt dessen eintragen? Er kostst z.Zt. nur 1.800 € wegen dem miesen Kurs.

Dank dir, Sonnie . Ich freue mich, dass Du Flúð verkauft hast, auch wenn es Dir sicher schwerfällt. Dieses Wochenende werde ich wieder die Seite aktualisieren, dann schreibe ich Rebbi drauf. Er ist sicher auch ein klasse Isi für Cutting!
Der Sattel ist ein alter Deuber Reinhold Bartmann mit Semi Quarter Baum. Mittlerweile gibt es aber sogar schon extra Westernsättel für Isländer (du bräuchtest ja einen neuen) ab 500 EUR. Bzw. einen Wintec-Sattel ab 379 EUR .
An die Westernsättel kann man wenigstens auch schön was ranhängen. Vielleicht reite ich dann demnächst mal mit Kamera aus, habe ich mir bisher nicht getraut.

Hei ja, das könnte ich mir gut vorstellen bei Rebbi! Ja mit dem Verkauf hab ich es nicht so. Ich lag gestern noch lange wach im Bett und habe mich gefragt, ob es richtig ist, sie herzugeben.... *schluck* Aber nun ist es ja zu spaet. Ich muss dann immer ganz doll an die tollen Pferde denken, die mir ja noch bleiben! Das hilft. Ab 500 € gibts da schon nette WS? Hast Du da auch Namen oder nen Link? Im Moment ists noch nicht so aktuell aber erkundigen kann man sich ja! Finde das Horn auch so praktisch und die weite Auflageflaeche so toll fuer die langen Ritte ueberhaupt und beim Schafabtrieb. Wir braeuchten einen mit grosser Sitzflaeche, denn Bragis Po soll da auch Platz drin finden! Was sagen denn Deine Westernleute zu den Wintec-Westernsaetteln?

Hab neue Rosinur besorgt, die anderen fielen regelmaessig anderen gierigen Maeulern zum Opfer. *versteck* :-)

Grundsätzlich finde ich auch das Horn und die vielen Möglichkeiten zum dranhängen toll. Klar ginge das beim Töltsattel auch, aber da hätte ich meine Kamera oder das Handpferd nicht so toll dran montieren können . Die Meinungen über Wintec gehen auseinander. In Island wäre sicher ein Vorteil die Wetterbeständigkeit. Ich hatte mal ein Bild eines Isi mit Wintec. Versuche es wiederzufinden und dir zu mailen. Jens freut sich sicher sehr, wenn ich ihm zu Weihnachten seine geliebten Rúsinur schenken kann!!!

@Ransý: Takk fyrir! I have a lot of ideas what to teach Baga but I also need somebody who can teach it to me. Luckily I found the right one . I am very excited what SSSól will say if she see the cows the first time. I think she will believe they are something to play with *eeeeeek*.

Danke fuer das Foto! Aber die Reiterin hat ja auch einen sehr kleines Popöchen ;-) In laenger wird der Sattel sicher wegen fehlender Roundskirts unangenehmer fuer nen Isi... Hm.. Und den tollen Deuber (sparsparspar) gibts ja auch nur bis 15 Zoll.... Naja, ist eh nicht fuer sofort! Irgendwann mal! Aber vielen Dank! Deine Adresse braeucht ich nochmal! :-) Umschlag liegt schon hier neben mir!
